The Best and Deepest Metal Detector Is . . .

One of my favorite learning places for treasure hunting with tips galore on metal detecting, is on the Internet. There, one will find a multitude of information as posts on metal detecting forums. These forums are run by system operators who are as often as much in love with the hobby of metal detecting as the patrons who visit and post on them. In short, a metal detecting forum on the Internet is a platform where people from anywhere in the world with common interests can place their comments about the hobby for all to read.

Often, the discussion on metal detecting forums is what is the best and deepest seeking metal detector. I have to laugh because even I get caught up in the debates over which metal detrector is better than others. The most common answer to this dilema is the detector owned by the patron posting the opinion. The debate goes on because everyone has their own ideas on a favored detector and it is usually the one they most recently bought.

It seems silly to argue which detector will seek the deepest, which detector is the best, etc., on a forum or anywhere else for that matter. All this does is tick off those who are dedicated to their own brand, who are also convinced theirs is the best (or the deepest seeking). Let it lie right there! The deepest seeking and the best detector is the one the owner is convinced is the best or deepest seeking, otherwise he or she never would have bought it in the first place. Truth is always in the eye of the beholder.

I noticed when an experienced TH'er suddenly switches to a different type or brand of metal detector from the one they have been using for some time, it is usually because they were hunting with someone who was using something different than what they were using, and dusted their britches. After a few butt-kickings they got the message and bought a detector like the other guy.

To be quite honest, there is no one metal detector that is the best or seeks the deepest in all hunting situations. It often takes two, or sometimes even three different metal detectors to cover all situations - and I'm only talking about hunting on land. In the water we are talking another animal all together.

The debates will probably go on with testimonial after testimonial about what is the best and deepest seeking metal detector, but the best and deepest seeking metal detector will never be agreed upon by all. I mean, just because you drive a Ford and I drive a Chevrolet and someone else drives a Toyota, makes no difference whatsoever, so why debate it? Metal detectors are no different.

Do not get discouraged on the Internet metal detecting forums because these debates do not always draw a conclusion. But, there is a heap of knowledge to be learned in these wars of choice. Even I have learned some new things about the metal detectors I own - and by the way - they are the best and deepest seeking metal detectors you can buy.
